TAJ VISIT

THE TAJ

My Journey to Taj Mahal.
A visit to some historical monument is a fascinating adventure. This winter I happened to visit the Taj Mahal. Our school trip to Agra was one of the most      memorable journey I have ever visited. Agra is a large, well spread-out city. We had to travel by buses.
As soon as I reached Agra, I rushed to Taj Mahal. This majestic piece of art and architecture was built by Shah Jahan, the famous Mughal emperor, in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal, according to a great thinker, “Is a drop of love on the  rosy cheeks of time.’’
In front of Taj I saw the sky high cypress trees that stand on both side of path. There are beautiful gardens and trees with wonderful fountains. The main building stands on a platform. On the four corners of platforms are the four towers acting like four sentinels of this central crown of glory. Inside the tomb is the grave of Mumtaz Mahal and after the death of Shahjahan his grave was also made next to Mumtaz's grave. At the back of the Taj runs the river Yamuna.
The taj mahal took 21 years to complete. It is said that after it had been completed, the hands of the artisans and the laborers, who built it were chopped off so that they might not be able to build another Taj Mahal.
In the year 2007, the Taj Mahal was ranked first among the seven wonders of the World.
